A week to go for Hosta College

Greetings,

Even with snow on the ground, many of us are getting excited about Hosta
College. I hear that many of the classes are full and there have been
many excited e-mails flying "behind the scenes."

Remember that on Friday night there is a short nematode seminar (with
slides) open to all and that is followed by the Hosta College Auction,
Col. IndianaBob, "auctioneer to the hostaphiles and plant moocher," in
charge. As was done last year, as a plant comes up for auction, a photo
of the plant will be projected while Col IndianaBob or one of his
assistants tells you about the plant's provenance. Exciting!!

Some of the plants being auctioned are three streakies: 'Ice Age Trail' a
streaky 'Big Daddy' seedling; a streaky TC of 'Buckeye Blue' and Brian &
Virginia's 'Xanadu Virginia Mary'. Great choices.

Then there is a longipes 'Katsuragawa Beni'. Very rarely comes on the
market. A couple of years ago it sold for $300 at auction. This plant
shows a lot of red, front and back, on its petioles and significant red
in the leaves. Thought to be a great one for your breeding program.

Many other great plants: 'Blue Mouse Ears', 'Bill Dress's Blue' (both
small blues), Lemon Frost, Rock and Roll,Center of Attention,Mack
the Knife, Wintergreen, Rosedale Genevieve,Rosedale Barnie,
Kinba, Gold Glory, Breathless, Merry Sunshine, Ebb Tide,
Garden Party,Joanne Johnson,Mountaineer, Punky and others -- and
many special plants donated by Van & Shirely Wade.

Thanks to all the donors who have graciously donated these plants - all
special people.

Looking forward to seeing you all,
Charles Tuttle
