Re: Fungus Gnats
Betsy,
A simple home remedy I use is 1/4 Cup Listerine, plus a couple of drops
of dish detergent in 1/2 gallon of water. Soak the soil well, let it sit
for 1/2 an hour, then rinse with fresh water. I do this 3 times,
every-other week, when I bring my houseplants in for winter. It really gets
rid of the gnats because it gets rid of the larvae in the soil.
Another one I've used is 1 tsp. of Borax laundry booster in 1/2 gallon
of water. Again, I let this sit for 1/2 hour then rinse with fresh water.
Both remedies have no effect on established houseplants. I'm not sure
if they'd harm hosta seedlings, though. Anyone else have experience with
that?
