I'm glad you asked that question! I hope Ran and others will respond.
I've wondered many times when I see a nice "green" hosta what made that
person keep it growing on...the flowers come later I guess. How does one
choose which to keep and which get ditched?
I grow a few seedlings for the fun of it....honestly I have a hard time
culling any of them...they're my babies...but what do you see/look for at
the early stage that makes you say its a keeper?
