There are different grades of perilite and some perilite has VERY high
concentrations of fluorine that is toxic to plants. The horticulture
grade of perilite is suppose to have a very low level of fluorine that
is not harmful to plants. However, the building grade perilite MAY
have very high fluorine concentrations and when you use it you may end
up killing or severally damaging all your plants. If you do use
building grade perilite, TEST each bag by mixing a generous amount of
it into your planting mix and growing some plants in it for awhile
before using it wholesale in your planting mix.
