I think your idea of a Convention scrapbook is an excellent idea.
 
Mike Shadrack was a riot as an auctioneer. He had several duplicates to auction off and used as a main selling point the fact that each was a "one of a kind hosta". Then he would sell the second identical hosta as a "one of a kind hosta" too.
 
Guess you had to be there......
