Chimeral Students,
I just finished reading another interesting paper entitled "Plant
Chimeras in Tissue Culture: A Review" by Mary F. Pogany and R. Davis
Lineberger, the latter being Professor of Horticulture,. Texas A&M..
The authors explain that the intent of the review was to present a
comprehensive discussion of the literature concerning in vitro culture
of plant chimeras and to explain the role that these studies play in
advancing the understanding of the ontogeny of shoot meristems in vitro.
The review included a bibliography on the subject citing 117 literature
references.
In the paper, the authors provided the following information..".Chimera
plants may originate by grafting, spontaneous mutation, induced
mutation, sorting-out from variegated seedlings, mixed callus cultures
and protoplast fusion". The source cited for this information was
Tilnet-Bassett, R.A.E., Plant Chimeras, Edward Arnold, Baltimore,
Maryland.
I looked and looked for mitotic recombination. They forgot to reference
Ben's papers.
