As someone who has done this with daylilies I will chime in briefly. There are "incomplete" conversions that take place and some of these incompletely converted daylilies will have "tet" pollen, dip "pollen", and "shriveled up" dead pollen. You can readily see the difference under a ten power magnification and is extremely evident under 100 power.
I have gotten both tet and dip seedlings.
Further, there are triploids in daylilies and I have made crosses with "trips" and gotten both "tets" and "dips".
