Hello Ben:
Ross is the introducer of Solar Flare and Inniswood. He is an
horticulturist---not a botanist as you are.
There is an article in an older issue of The Hosta Journal in which he
presents his thesis and proof. I don't have the cite. Maybe someone can find
it and send it on to you.
There was a great controversy over the decision to name ALL gold sports of FW
'Golden Sunburst'. As I recall, Ross protested with no little vigor and
authority.
Isn't the only way to test his and your theories is thru the use of an
electron microscope or some similar apparatus?
I look forward to reading your article.
Hope all is well with you and family.

P.S. One of these days I'll get around to sending you those species hostas.
Just got okamatoi.
