Journal Thanks

As probably most of you know now, there are going to be 3 Hosta Journals a
year starting in 2002. This is great news. I also recently discovered that
Kevin W. is handing over the reigns of The Journal to Bob Olson after this
next issue. I want to take this space to thank Kevin Walek for the hours
and hours of volunteer work which The Journal has stolen from his life.
The Journal is wonderful, and short of the rare IRS refund check it is my
favorite piece of mail. And very seriously, I think Kevin deserves a
greatful cheer from all of us for the years of producing such a superior
product. . And Bob Olson deserves our quiet e-mail cheers too. As he has
done it before, he knows what he is getting in to, and to tackle The
Journal with fore-knowledge is entirely admirable and probably a good
reason to quote some lines from Kipling's "Gunga Din".

This posting would not be complete without a giant thank you to Janet Mills
too. For being a non-hosta person (the only way she can keep her sanity)
she has done a remarkable job on The Journal. Many, many thanks to all
of you. Glen W.

P.S. Bob Olson wrote a great essay on the history of The Hosta Journal for
this last summer's FIRST LOOK publication. I haven't asked him, but I hope
he would consider publishing it on the robins....or some of the various
hosta newsletters. It certainly points out that the Hosta Journal has been
a wonderfully cumulative production and its success rests on a good many
shoulders.

"If only words would keep their meaning and live up to their promise...or
is it me?"
