leaf shape

I know that as a hosta matures the shape of the leaf will sometimes
change. Has anyone noticed any kind of general pattern to how they
change? I mean if a leaf starts out round or heart shaped will it be
more likely to stay that way? It seems some of the plants do the
opposite and get more rounded as they mature.
