Can someone cash the wrong check. Anything is possible. I do taxes for a
living. One of my clients owed over $15,000.00 dollar to the IRS. He made
out the check to the IRS but in error mailed it to the Commonwealth of MA.
The Commonwealth cashed the check no problem. They gave him credit for the
$15,000.00 and he got an amazing refund in May of the following year. The IRS
did not understand and charged him interest and penalties to the tune of over
$1,000.00 for paying late. He had to find the additional $15,000.00 before
the end of the year.
