A number of researchers working in the tropics have demonstrated that using
mulch and 1/3 the recommended fertilizer increased growth by double.
The mechanism is the fungus that breaks down the mulch and makes phosphorus
more readily available and has the long term effect of reducing disease and
pest problems.
