Apart from the difference between a taxonomist and the geneticist in
defining a hybrid, there seems to be another difference in defining a hybrid
1. a hybrid is the result of any cross ( that way also any offspring of
ventricosa are hybrids or seedlings due to nonreduced eggs etc).
.
I prefer the following:
2. a hybrid is the offspring of two parents that can be shown, one way
or another, to have characters of both parents.
EXAMPLE
If hybrid A x hybrid B > A then the latter is a hybrid
according to definition 1., but not according to definition 2 because it
is not a mix of the two parents.
A x B >>A maybe rare in animals (some fishes do it that way!), but is not rare in plants.
