Joan,

Have you ever tried using ground pepper to discourage the ants from living in
your flowerpots?  I've used the big can of pepper that I fill the peppershaker
with to pour a teaspoon or so into anthills, and the ants relocate.  Maybe you
could put a thin layer on the bottom of  the pot to discourage them from
climbing in and out of the drain hole and on the top layer of the soil.
