Welcome to the IGSRobin Mailing List Discussion Group

The IGSRobin started life as the IGS Club, set up originally
by Diana Pederson for members of the International Geranium
Society, in the USA, who were online and wished to exchange
their enthusiasm for pelargoniums, geraniums and other Genera
in the Family Geraniaceae. The oldest archived messages are
from 1997 so it has been going for some time. The group is
now around 100 members from all around the world, from Australia, to China, to New Zealand, to Denmark, to Japan,
to Sweden, to The Netherlands, to Britain, to Italy, to Canada
and of course the USA. Being the most popular Genus
pelargoniums tend to predominate the discussion with
"hardy" geraniums (cranesbills) coming up quite often and
other Genera occasionally. We have quite a few members
with interests in the species of Geraniaceae, and others who
specialise in Scenteds, Angels, Regals, Fancy leaf and the
more unusual forms. Some of our members are authors of
the best Pelargonium/Geranium/Erodium/Sarcocaulon web
sites, others are book authors. Join in and you'll find a friendly
online specialist club. If you have any problems contact the
List Manager at igsrobin@beeb.net

INSTRUCTIONS FOR USING THE IGSROBIN

The IGSRobin is hosted at Hort.net (the non-commercial part
of Mallorn Computing) on Majordomo software. Majordomo
is designed to be run through email alone and does not need
access to a website to run a Mailing List Discussion Group. It
is generally very simple to use, but if you do have any problems
contact the IGSRobin List Manager at igsrobin@beeb.net

THE MESSAGES

To send your messages to all the members, once your subscription
is successful, just email it from your original subscribed address to
igsrobin@hort.net .

If you are a new member feel free to introduce yourself and let us
know your interests. When asking questions of other members
remember that we are scattered around the world and may not
know where you are or your climatic conditions.

Please see "Rules" below in this message for policy on using the
IGSRobin List.

JOINING AND LEAVING

The instructions below in CAPITALS do not have to be sent in
capitals - they are used here to help distinguish the information to
add to emails in case this message is seen in plain text.

To join, or subscribe, to the IGSRobin send an email from your
normal address (the one you wish the IGSRobin messages to be
sent) to majordomo@hort.net with SUBSCRIBE IGSROBIN in
the text area. Anything in the subject area is ignored. You will be
sent two automatic massages one of which contains a confirmation
code which has to be returned to complete the subscription.

If you wish to subscribe an address which is different from the one
you are sending from change the text to
SUBSCRIBE IGSROBIN [YOUR NAME] [YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS]
(do not including the [ ] brackets and write your name in the usual
way) and wait a day or two, as this may take longer to process.

To leave the Mailing List, or unsubscribe, send an email from your
normal subscribed email address to majordomo@hort.net with
UNSUBSCRIBE IGSROBIN in the text area.

To unsubscribe using an address other than the one that you used
to subscribe to the List, please send full details to the List Manager at
igsrobin@beeb.net

INFORMATION

Once you are a member of the IGSRobin List there are a few
"Command" instructions you can send to majordomo@hort.net
that will provide information.

If you just send the word HELP you will be sent a copy of the
software Help file by email which gives you all information relevant
to subscribers on using Majordomo Lists - some commands in this
document do not apply to Hort.net or the IGSRobin List. On the
other hand this message contains all commands that function for
the IGSRobin.

The two words INFO IGSROBIN will get you the Info file sent
to you when you joined the IGSRobin. It is aimed at the general
enquirer being accessible to anyone on the internet and not just members of the IGSRobin.

The two words INTRO IGSROBIN will retrieve a copy of the
up-to-date version of this intro file, that is sent to all new members
on joining. It both provides an Introduction to the List and is a
comprehensive Reference to all relevant points you will need to
join in or leave. It is only available to List members.

If you send in the word LISTS a return message will send you
all Mailing Lists that are hosted on the Hort.net Majordomo server.

INDEX IGSROBIN will provide all member-accessible files to
IGSRobin members. At the moment this is only this intro file.

GET IGSROBIN INTRO will get you a copy of the intro file.
If any other files are added in the future, substitute the file name
(you have found by using the index command) for intro to get a
copy. However it is not known when or if this will become
available on the Hort.net Majordomo server.
WHICH will provide all Mailing Lists you are subscribed to
on the Hort.net Majordomo server.

WHO is a command that is sometimes available to allow members
of some Lists to access the addresses of who is subscribed to the
Mailing List. This not available to members of the IGSRobin List.

If all emails from your address have a Signature or other
information added, Majordomo may have problems
understanding the instructions your "command" was intended
to indicate. In this case you can add the word END on the
line below to indicate the end of the instruction.

RULES FOR USING THE IGSROBIN MAILING LIST
If you do have any problems contact the IGSRobin List Manager
at igsrobin@beeb.net
Receipt of this message is taken as acceptance of the following rules:

No images are to be sent to igsrobin@hort.net via email. If you
have a need to share pictures, send mail to owner-igsrobin@hort.net
and a common area can be set up.

Users must respect other users and the content of this list.

The IGSRobin is for the discussion of matters related to
pelargoniums, geraniums, erodiums, sarcocaulons, monsonia
and the IGS. Announcements, from members, directly related
to these are permitted. Information about members' commercial
activities where related to other content are welcome within
reason. Matters relating to the IGS will appear from time to
time, but if you want to contact any particular Officer of the
IGS or a Board member please do so directly, off-list.
Although IGS Officers are most welcome to join the List if
they wish to, they may not wish to.

Slightly-off-topic discussion may be permitted, occasionally,
but off-topic discussion is not. The List Owners/Managers, may
remove members if they do not stop when instructed to do so.
Keep frivolous messages to a minimum, and keep message content
short. Shorter messages mean faster delivery and better performance.

If you use the "Reply to" facility delete or edit the original message.
It is useful to keep a string going but can add a lot to message if not
edited. Sections of the Original Message are acceptable where
being referred to. Headers must be deleted from the Text Body.

Please do not use "Reply to" without changing the Subject if the
content is on a new subject.

We reserve the right to remove users from this list if they persistently
do not observe these rules.
