Hi Andrew,

While no expert on spiders, I have seen mentioned on some discussion groups
that there are other spiders, resembling red spider mites albeit larger
that do not spin webs. They are supposedly 'harmless' as they prey on
smaller creatures
How about a search in cacti_etc's archives?
