Many thanks to Michael and Robin for their remarks on tuberous rooted
geraniums...and many thanks to Cindy for forwarding my question so kindly.
We have had rather mild winters over the last few years in North West of
Italy, so the ground froze only slightly on the surface. However the plants
I bought here as G. tuberosum seemed to bloom much more - but didn't spread
at all - some years ago, when I grew them in the red clay of the backyard
which warms up rather slowly.
By the way, last October Rein wrote something about the differences between
G. tuberosum and G. malviflorum. Looking at the shape of tubers I think I am
really growing G. tuberosum, but the leaves always come up in the autumn
(October), a characteristic which is often ascribed to G. malviflorum. So
I still have some doubts, and any help in identification is very welcome.
All the best, Marisa
