succulents, including succulent varieties of pels will form a "callus" over
the cut portion of the cutting after several days. some species root best
after allowing a callus to form--it is a natural reaction to being cut and
releases auxins that promote root formation. It was thought in the past
that "hardening" geranium and pel cuttings thusly improved rooting. Not so,
except for the truly succulent types like old man never die, or the
sarcocaulons.
