Greetings from Zelma
McDaniel.
I live
about 17 miles above Placerville, CA in the so called Sierra Foothills. It
is a beautiful area close to Pollock Pines which is on HWY 50 on the road to
Lake Tahoe.
We have our own Sly Park
Lake which is about 5 miles out of Pollock Pines. Our home is located
about 2 miles from the Lake. We have large Oaks, Digger Pines, Incense
Cedar, Madronne Trees and lots of Manzetta.
When
we first moved here 20 years ago, my husband said no plants or lawn. Bulbs
were ok so we started with Daffodils and tulips. Then a neighbor suggested
Iris, stating that loosely they could be considered in the bulb classigication
although rhyzomes. That hooked me. After my Iris bloomed I wondered
aloud to someone that I would like to extend my bloom period and they suggested
Day Lillies and Lilies. I put the daylillies along the front of my house
about 18 years ago and they still give me flowers every year. I also
placed some in 2 big barrels along my driveway. They are still giving me
blooms. Right this moment I can look out my office window and see
them. Mostly I found t hat Orange, and Yellow was about the only colors I
could find. I wanted to branch out with more colors especially pink. My
Iris gardens took up a great deal of my energy and I have just resumed the
pursuit of more daylilys. Finding the information on the Amador Daylily
Farm which is located not far from our home reawakend my interest and that is
how I began searching the web and spotted William Cook"s msg about his web
site, the daylily list etc.
Most
of the daylilys that I own are the very tall types and July bloomers. I
would like add some medium and even small ones. Also some earlier &
later bloomers if there are any. I am just beginning my search if any of
you have any suggestions they would be appreciated.
