I simple wait until the pods have turned brown and begin to split open.
Then put them in the refrigerator until I'm ready to plant. I usually
start them indoors with my other seeds in March or April.  I do know of
people though who plant them outdoors in late November so they go
through a naturaly cold cycle and germinate in spring.  That seems to
work reasonably well also.
