[ENABLED] OT: Web Accessibility Month

April has been designated accessibility month by the HTML Writer's Guild,
with the goal of increasing useability of the web by people who use
various assistive technologies (like screen readers or screen magnifiers),
by people with various learning disorders, etc. There is a nice
checklist of requirements and recommendations for making HTML code
acessible at "WAI Accessibility Guidelines: Page Authoring"
http://www.w3.org/TR/1998/WD-WAI-PAGEAUTH-0203

Or run your favorite web pages through Bobby, a webpage checker
that not only helps you get your material into accessible format,
it checks your coding, and the download time. It's available
at http://www.cast.org/Bobby

Tom Clothier has worked hard to make his Manytimes site for new
gardeners accessible, and has done a nice job, I think:
http://www.anet-chi.com/~manytimes Kudos and many thanks, Tom!

Kay Lancaster kay@fern.com
who has been chewing on the USDA to make their plants picture gallery
useable by low-vision readers -- progress is being made!; and
on the University of Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, who haven't
yet been responsive... their stylish web pages have low contrast
stuff that can barely be read by people with keen sight!
