Tom:
Thank you so much for including the hyperlink to your site which led me to
additional information on making websites accessible. I've contacted
someone at the site and asked if they would have a person available that
would be willing to look over my personal website and make suggestions.
I've also contacted SUITE101 about creating an alternative spot for my
SUITE101 Enabling Garden weekly column that was designed specifically for
the visually impaired. I'll need a bit of "hand holding" during this
process because I'm not the best html programmer and don't have time right
now to study it due to a heavy class load. I've asked our managing team if
we could have the accessible symbol on the main content page (main entry
point) with a list of my column and that of any other editor that tried to
make their sites more accessible. I am excited to see what our managing
team decides. I suggested to them that the other alternative would be full
permission to publish every column I do at my personal website (or on
SUITE101's server) in an accessible format.
Thank you for bringing this issue up! It may not be gardening as such, but
it will help make accessible gardening information more available. I am
anxious to hear from someone who can give direct me as to what I need to do.
To other readers: please feel free to use this email group to discuss other
accessible issues--even if not directly related to gardening. This is an
issue all of us need to learn more about.
