Wendy, I have 3 old aquariums that I use for plants. Two of them house my
seedling orchids so I don't put lids on them and one has ferns in it and I
leave it sealed so tightly that I only have to water it once or twice a year.
African violets grow great under lights...just don't seal it up too tight,
make sure there is some airflow. I sealed up a tank with a glass lid that
had a violet with one moldy leaf - soon the entire tank was mold covered.
Duh, lesson learned. One moldy leaf would not have been a problem on my
kitchen table or in an uncovered tank.
I also have some goldfish plants that share real estate with my orchids and
bloom very well under lights. Don't ask me to spell the latin name, I can't
do it without looking at a book, but they are in the same family as violets.
Good luck,
Sam
Hi Sam......
Thanx for all the great ideas. I too, have an unused aquarium and might just
try some of your ideas.
Take care, Claire
