Hello my name is Christine Koprowski from Chicago, Illinois and I have
recently joined the list and have been picking up many value tips. I have
been indoor gardening for about a year now when I moved into my first
apartment. I have always had one or two plants such as my Norfolk Pine which
started out as a little guy and has grown several feet since. I have a small
collection of various plants which has been slowly growing and I have just
begun the battle of the bugs for the first time.
Other plants which I have scattered around my apartment are a Polka Dot
plant, several Ivy, Spider Plants, a large Ravenea Majesty Palm (which has
recently started turning brown), a couple of Schefflera, an Asparagus
Spengeri, two Philodendrons, a Goose Foot plant (which is out of control as I
have it wrapped several times around a small trellis), some Shamrocks (which
I saved from a table of dying plants at a store for $1.91), two Ficus
Benjaminas (which I also saved from certain death), a White Cloud Ficus, a
Song of Jamaica, a Boston Fern, a Palm (type unknown), a Cyclamen, a
Miniature Rose, a Bridal Veil, a China Doll plant, another Fern (type
unknown), two Aloe plants, some Resurrection Plants, a Gardenia, and in the
kitchen Lavender, Sage, and Chives.
I mentioned my battle of the bugs as I discovered shortly after purchasing my
Gardenia that it has Mealy Bugs. I so very much want to see my Gardenia
flower and have been trying hard to fight the dreaded Mealy Bugs without
using anything harsh as I have a very curious kitten. I am starting to get
tired of lugging my Gardenia into the bathroom (it is in a large bucket)
where I have been removing the bugs with Q-tips doused in rubbing alcohol
and spraying with a combination of distilled water and liquid soap. If anyone
has any other suggestions for me I would greatly appreciate them.
Also, if any one has any information as to the care of Shamrocks,
Resurrection Plants, and Song of Jamaica please send them my way as I have
found very little information on these plants. In the meantime, I will
continue to happily read all of the posts I receive from this list.
Christine :^)
