I don't use the water measuring thing--I just stick my fingers in the
soil. My husband, however, hates to touch the soil, so whenever he has to
care for my plants, I worry. We used to have a moisture meter, which
worked well for years and helped my husband immeasurably. Unfortunately, I
loaned it to a friend and never got it back.
I'm going to try to teach my husband how to judge water needs by the
weight of the pot (sorry, can't remember who suggested that, but it
is a fabulous idea).
