One idea for winterizing container mini roses is those cheap styrafoam
coolers. (someday I'll learn to spell!) Once the rose is dormant, put it
into a cooler, pack it well with insulating marerials or peatmoss, and leave
it outside.
My climber in a half whisky barrel died, so I can tell you NOT to leave a
rose in a barrel unprotected. The freeze-thaw cycle is hard on roses when
it comes from just the top - deadly when it comes from sides and bottom as well.
I'm hoping to put in a water garden outdoors in a year or two, so if there
is a mailing list started for this, let me know about it!
