Re: Oxygen producing plants
Dear Pete and Heather:
Although the research on how plants can cleanse toxic chemicals from
a room was originally done by NASA; you can readily look up articles and
research in EPA and OSHA, even some Extension services have specialists
for sick building syndrome. The now retired specialist that did the
research at NASA wrote a very good non technical book whose name I can't
recall.
During my house remodel I accessed the various sources to help
prevent the various building chemicals from irritating my allegories.
It worked!
Basically the research shows that specific plants not only absorb
certain gases but the plants dissipates the gases in its transpiration
process. For the best coverage you need to have a variety of plants.
I think the formula was a ten inch pot sized plant per hundred square
feet.
Best, Vicki
