Hello to all,
I do not really have anything unusual. I have several cacti, several
succulents and they are doing great. Some are blooming now. Most of those
plants are so hybridized, they don't know themselves who they are. If I had
more room or better environment for them (dreaming of greenhouse) I would
try to get more exotic plants or more species. But species are more adamant
about the conditions they will grow in. For example, in late spring of 97 I
got a seedling of Monkey Puzzle (Araucaria bidwillii). It was doing fine as
long as it was outside. Two months in the house and it died.
Going back to orchids - one of my favorites is Laelia purpurata. Some years
ago I had one plant and it even bloomed few times, but then it died. A
month ago I got another one. I'll see if this one will last longer. The
hybrids on the other hand are doing much better, are more tolerant of the
conditions and it is very seldom for me to loose one. Right now is the peek
of the cattleyas to bloom so maybe 15 are in buds or in bloom.
I also have more common houseplants like a palm and two Rubber Plants
(Ficus elastica - variegated and new to me ficus hybrid - it has very big
leaves, much thinner than elastica, also variegated with dark and light
green and a habit of branching.
That's about it. As allways I dread winter. I hate the snow, the cold and
the short days. I miss my outside garden with all those beautifull flowers
and the raspberries. And the worst part of it is that I can not do anything
about that.
Oh, my God, that is a long post!
Barbara
