Good Morning,
Are there any bonsai experts out there?
I inherited a bonsai tree (looks kind of like a ficus benjamina, but the
leaves are bluish-green, and they aren't droopy - they are 1.5 inches long,
3/4 inches at their widest). Anyway, it's really tall for a bonsai (14
inches from the soil up), and leggy. The first 7 inches of the trunk (about
1/2 inch in diameter) only have two scrawny branches, the top has a couple
of forked branches, but they are also very sparse. I'd like to prune it -
branches and roots, and repot it in the same 4" x 6" ceramic pot with fresh
soil. (I read that they should be pruned in the spring, but does it really
matter, since it's indoors year-round?)
Should I just accept it for what it is, or can I make it bushier and more
compact?
I keep the soil moist, and keep the ceramic pot on a pebble tray with a
zebra plant and a mini dendrobium orchid.
Thanks - and Happy Holidays to All,
Donna
