[INDOOR-GARDENING:126] Re: orchids

Claire,

Inadvertently, I forgot to talk regarding ventilation. We have large ceiling
fans in our greenhouses which are on 24 hours a day and all year long. This
is most important for orchids -- that they have "moving" air around them just
as they would in their natural habitat. We mist frequently, also . . . here
again, just like they would be misted in the rain forest. (Misting, always on
a rising temperature in the morning so the plants can somewhat dry off before
the temperature falls and evening comes on with darkness. We mist with a bit
of fish emulsion in the tepid water. Makes your foliage spectacular!) You
could use a small fan, pointed up toward the ceiling, for instance, for the
same effects. The moving air also helps you greatly with less mildew and
mold.

You will need to determine in your plant room where your orchid will get the
light requirements you determine after you read and study about where its
family comes from.

Good Growing!
