[INDOOR-GARDENING:178] Gardening Indoors under HIgh Intensity Lights

Hello List Members,

I have two 400w Metal Halide and One 100w Metal Halide that give off I
think enough light in my 12x6 basement garden and I have mostly tropical
that are day neutral . I have the lights on from 6 am to 6 pm. The two 400w
lights are about 12 to 18 inches above the top of the small plants and I
read about 4000 foot candles at this distance, however it drops to 2000
foot candles at 24 inches.

The 11th is 7 feet off the ground, used mostly for my citrus and fuschia
and gingers , etc. I get 10,000 foot candles at 18 inches which burns the
plants. so I have determined by trial and error that any where from 24 to
30 inches seems good for citrus and the above mentioned plants. 3000
Footcandles

Well, what was the reason for this post ? I just wanted to share my
experience with others and hopefully others who are doing this High
Intensity Light gardening will share their experiences and we may learn
from one another. This thread may encourage other may be inclined to
start and enjoy rare trifocals and fruit indoors.

I started with no formal documentation and it has been trial and error, if
there are any good sources that give information on light levels, the
effect of hight light and any correlations to fertilizer usage , etc. for
plants under High Intensity Lights I would appreciate knowing about it.

If any one would like more information, I would be please to assist. I
will post a list of what I have under light in my next message.
