Ruth - a study I saw somewhere reported that the old pebble tray method
does not actually significantly increase the humidity around the plants,
although it can help a bit if they are grouped tightly together. I'll see
if I can track it down.
Something that works for me is to run an old-fashioned belt and fan style
humidifier. Better for people, too! Garage sales are a good source and
I've never paid more than $20 for one ;-) I also close off the registers
near the plants, that keeps them cooler.
