Hello,
Just wanted to add my personal 2 cents on this topic. I also have a croton
which was beginning to look very much like two palm trees - very leggy. I
air-layered them about four months ago, and I now have lovely dark green
leaves (I think the color comes with age and light) growing all over the
place on the original "trunks", as well as one of the cut off top portion.
So it worked amazingly well. I feel like quite the mad scientist.
If you would rather "play it safe" with your croton, you may want to only
air layer one branch at a time.
Good luck with yours, and congratulations on the flowers.
