Eduardo, your ficus may have scale. Can you move the scaly stuff on the
stems? If so, that's probably what it is. The brown stuff o the leaves
could be a fungus type thing that shows up as a result of the sticky
exudate that is given off by the scale insect. I have had great
success using a mixture that I heard about here, (thanks to whoever told
about it) of equal parts of ammonia, rubbing alcohol and water in a spray
bottle, drenching all parts of the plant. Just make sure that you use it in
a well ventilated place, or your family will find you dead on the floor, I
fear. You have to use it a few times to really get on top of the problem.
My parents were in Frank's last week, and they got me a gigantic fuschia,
(red & white flowers), some sort of begonia with silvery white spots all
over the leaves, and a New Guinea Impatiens. Each big hanging pot was
$1.39! Wow! I just traded 12 baby Echinacea purpurea's for 4 Egyptian
walking onion plants. Right now I'm working a lot outside, and I THINK it
may have gotten warm enough to send all the houseplants to summer camp. I
will be bringing them out in a couple of days. It was down to 38 two
nights ago though, so I'll just wait and see. When I get more time I'll
tell you all my DILL-icious recipe. It's just that right now it's concert
time and I have been driving kids to all these rehearsals and performances,
and doing the outside work, and making sure everybody is doing their HW and
studying properly for finals, and.....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Bye
fer now, all! Lauren B. in New City, NY Z.6
