Congratulations on your African Violet blooming for you! I read your
excited post and just *had* to respond! There's nothing that beats the
thrill of nurturing a baby along, only to be rewarded with blooms!
I've been lurking on this list now for a couple of weeks, and I'm really
pleased to have found you all. My name's Liila. I live in Florida in a
condo community called The Forest, that has a somewhat woodsy feeling to
it, and I *do* have some space outside for hibiscus, herbs, assorted
flowering plants, and some cacti, but I also am in the process of acquiring
a collection of 'special babies' I don't want to subject to the brutal heat
and blazing sunshine of Florida in the summertime. I want them to remain
inside. All the time. Where I can admire them and have them near me. ;-D
I love living here, but the plain truth is that there are many plants that
just don't do that well outside down here with the tropical weather. Plus,
one has to factor in that even with an outside/inside rotation, (leave 'em
outside, bring 'em in for a week or so, then bring 'em back outside again),
I always end up bringing in lizards and bugs along with the plants...I've
also come to realize that the plants don't care for this treatment very
much, either. I think it's too much of a shock for them.
I just ordered some scented geraniums from Papa Geno's, and am wondering if
any of you have experience with them. I talked my husband into building me
an indoor plant light setup of some kind, (eventually...), and am hoping to
be able to grow these scented geraniums inside. Is it reasonable to expect
to be able to grow them inside, or should I not even bother trying? What do
you find to be the pros and cons of scented geranium cultivation?
Nice meeting you all!
