RE: Springtime

>Ooo- what's a lipstick plant?

It's name is Aeschynanthus, and it's a trailing gesnariad (it enjoys the
same treatment and conditions as African violets, basically). The
foliage is plain but nice, and trails over the side of the pot, about
a foot long, with evenly placed leaves. The flowers are what's neat:
it starts out as bunches of fuzzy maroon buds, which split open and
have bright red, tubular blooms (some varieties are also yellow or
orange, even variegated, but I've never seen one). It's an easy-to-care-for
plant. It will take as much light as you can give it up to direct sunlight
(I put mine in a west window and really burned the leaves). I bought it
as a cheap $2 start 2 years ago (the way I buy a lot of my nicest
plants).
