Hi Donna and Everyone:
I'm relatively new to the list, and this is the first message I feel
qualified to respond to. Yes, an Aglaonema Silver Queen will root from a
cutting. A few years ago my mother brought home a piece of Silver Queen that
her office's plant maintenance service accidentally lopped off. It rooted in
a few week in moist vermiculite, which I prefer using to water. I also used
rooting hormone.

Original message:
<<I have had a Chinese Evergreen (Aglaonema, Silver Queen) for about 18 months
now and I have treated it very badly. It was originally very full and
happy, but over the last few months it has gotten sparser and sparser.
Yesterday I wanted to pick off a couple of yellow leaves, and the whole
stalk came out of the ground - the roots had rotted off. I then gave gentle
tugs to the other 5 stalks, and I got the same reaction. I cut off the
rotted portion, threw out the soil, and left the stalks in a vase of water,
hoping they will root again. I realize that what I did wrong - I
overwatered the poor thing. I keep it on top of a high shelf, and it is
difficult to test the soil up there, so I just watered it without checking.
I looked up propagation techniques for the chinese evergreen, and "cuttings"
wasn't one of them (division was).
Has anyone experienced anything similar?
Thanks,
Donna>>
