mailing amaryllis bulbs

I purchased some amaryllis bulbs for Christmas presents.  They need to get from Orlando, FL to Chicago, IL, and I just learned they will need to go by mail (not in a nice, heated car, as I'd hoped).

Any suggestions on how I can safely mail these bulbs?  They are still dormant, but I'm worried about the cold weather up there.  I assume I'll need to send the bulbs via overnight express, but am not sure what else can be done to protect them.
