The best such listing I know of is in Hortus Third.  I would think most
public libraries carry it and you can also sometimes find it as an
incentive to join a gardening book club (that's how I got mine).

Also, most good books on houseplants will have two indeces - one by
botanical, the other by common name.

If anyone has any particular puzzlers, just let me know.  I'll be happy to
look them up for you.
