Hi Everyone! Had a great experience today--I had found the fruit of
monstera at a local supermarket (with an info sheet). If you haven't seen
one--it's about 10 inches long, thin like a cucumber and covered with six
sided scales. When I got to school today the scales had started to fall off
meaning it was ripe. So, the gr. 3 teacher, and I plus 26 children tasted
our delicious monster! And delicious it was-a bit like kiwi fruit to me,
some said banana and strawberry. If you ever have a chance to get one of
these --do it just for the experience. The only *downer* was that we could
not find any seeds. They were probably there looking very m,uch like
something else!
We do *kitchen biology* with our students all year--involves becoming
friends with some very strange fruits. Usually we find seeds, plant them
and hope we (the teachers) dont kill them over the summer!
