New start in january

Hi:

Although this list has been really quiet, 
I'll be trying to spark some general discussion
about plants in January.

Thought I'd do something that I haven't seen 
on the alpine-l list.  Each week, we'll discuss
plants beginning with a different letter of 
the alphabet.

The first week in January will be the letter "A".
Put your thinking caps on and we'll come up
with all the A plants that would grow well in 
troughs or pots!

One request:  let's try to make our 
discussion most suitable for amateurs.  Please do
use Latin names when possible along with the 
common names.  Let's use this list to educate
those who might not understand why we prefer Latin
names for plants and other creatures!

Also, if you have pictures of trough gardens, feel free
to upload them to the files section of this group.  Although
I wouldn't mind having them sent to the group
as a whole, I realize some have to pay for every
minute they are downloading emails and pictures
really increase the required time.
