[miniaturerockgardens] Starting a garden club

From: "Enabling" <enabling@netzero.net>

Hi:

Yesterday morning, on the way to church, it struck me that I live in the
perfect place to try to start a garden club just for the elderly and/or
disabled. My townehouses consist of 256 units. I KNOW many of the elderly
people and also believe there are many others with disabilities.

I hope to have an announcement in the April newsletter for our townehouse
complex inviting people to join a garden club. Through the Michigan
Horticulture Therapy association, I will be able to get some free
perennials from Walters Gardens (an outstanding wholesaler here in
Michigan) to pass out to the club members (in early June).

I plan to introduce these people to the idea of trough gardens (made out of
hypertufa, wood, plastic, or whatever along with more traditionally sized
container gardening. I am thinking of suggesting a theme of +ACI-a garden on
every porch+ACI-. I want to make gardening fun again for people who have given
up this hobby.

If I can manage to make this a year-round club, I am thinking of
introducing them to dish gardens, bonsai and other miniature gardens for
indoors.
Any ideas would be appreciated+ACE-
