Use flat latex paint. Sometimes the paint stores have error-mixed cans of odd
colors for very little money. Use any natural looking earth tone, but the
trick is to use two or three colors so the result is not flat looking. Dip a
paper towel into each color and rub it all over the surface. If there are any
crevices, let the paint settle in there, buff off the high spots. The dirtier
looking color, the better. You can also coat the surface with buttermilk to
encourage algae.
