RE: ramblers

I read your message and hoped you were in Sunset Zone 4, not a USDA 4.  I 
planted Alexandre Girault last year as a rather vigorous rooted section.  It 
grew like a weed.  It made it through this rather mild winter, but not with 
flying colors.  There is some dieback.  I was surprised to see Heirloom's 
catalog lump all the wichuriana ramblers together and hardy to Zone 4. 
 Usually they are listed as hardy to Zone 5 with a few being a bit hardier. 
 If at all possible, see if you can find someone growing these ramblers in 
your area.  I'm on the border of Zone 4/5.
