Re: Winter protection

I am going to try something new this year. This was suggested to me by a
sheep farming friend-she has been quite successful with this method. She
lives in central New York. I raise sheep and after shearing each year I
have left overs from each fleece; parts that have too much manure, etc.
to be sold. I am going to wrap my roses in this dirty fleece. Not only
will they be protected, but the manure will be washed into the ground
over the winter to help feed the plants. I have used wool as a mulch in
my perennial bed before. I live in western Massachusetts in zone 5.
