I haven't grown it, but the English rose 'Charlotte' is very pretty
sitting in HOGR's [Heirloom Old Garden Roses] display garden. I
concidered it a few years ago, but this is the first year that they
offer it. (Used the name for a lamb two years ago instead.)

'Charlotte' looks alot like 'Graham Thomas' (my favorite) in bloom
form, but she's a lighter, clear medium-yellow. Not pale yellow like
'The Pilgrim', and not the bright yellow like 'Happy Child', (the
name
suits it well ) which might also be one to look at.

As for white roses, the two I sent you cutting of are very nice, but
that's a long time to wait. Of these two; Mme.Plantier (an Alba) is
still my favorite in bloom and fragrance, though only a one time
bloomer the bush is delightful even out of bloom. Boule de Neige (a
Bourbon) is not my favorite bloom as it's rather pompom like and
lacks "character" to me, but she has heart to blow nearly
continuously, clear into a light frost.

Winchester Cathedral is another delightful white English rose (a
sport of Mary Rose). Blooms very well and I like the "cupped" blooms
and fat short buds. In heavy rains, the blooms don't away open very
well, but it repeats often and fast, so I just clip them off and make
room for the next batch. Want cuttings in Summer ?

HOGR's catalogue say's English roses can handle zones 4 and 5.
They no longer offer 'Mme.Plantier' or 'Boule de Neige' in their
catalogue. I would definately get own-root roses.

PS.. I love the delightful old Belgium lambie card you sent me,
I plan to frame it. Thanks so much.

Sincerely,
