Hi, Mary:

Well, I may have to jerry-rig a sprinkler over these roses...I'm so reluctant 
to give them up. Still wonder if a mature plant isn't better able to 
withstand such an onslaught. Doddering on whether to yank them or give them 
one more year. They had so few leaves their first year and lost them 2x (one 
plant defoliated 3x).

Congrats on your book...will look for it.
