Bob!

Another person out there and also Tom. Well, let us get this list going
a bit.

I want to try to move some roses to a new place this year and I think
this spring would be the best time to move them but I will not be at the
site often enough to take care of them properly until fall so I may try
to dig them and replant in large tubs for the summer. I can sink them
in the ground for the summer so their roots do not get cooked in the sun
and the branches and flowers burned by the wind here. We will be moving
in late fall when I retire. At least I hope we will be moving then. It
will depend upon the sale of this house or finding a good renter for it
so it is not left vacant in the winter.

I have some non-patented roses and I want to try taking some cuttings
and rooting them in the ground with a moisture barrier over them just to
see if it can be done. I used to be able to do that with some of the
roses from old homestead houses but it is difficult to decide if the
ones I have now and in this climate will root and grow to healthy
plants.

My Grandmother had some old roses that came from Germany and which had
been in her family for some time. They were known as "cabbage roses".
That sounds pretty unflattering now but in actuality was quite the
contrary because cabbage is a favorite with the German people. I wish I
could see if there are still any roots on the old farm in NE Wisconsin.

With the drought years behind us and a fair amount of moisture in the
form of both rain and snowfall I was finally able to grow some roses in
the past 2 years. Prior to that it had been about 10 years since the
last of my roses perished in the dry heat and wind.

How about someone throwing out a few subjects we could try to share
information about? If we do not have any information perhaps we could
do a bit of research and benefit from it too.

Sincerely,

Patti <prw@televar.com>
