May I suggest planting buddleas (summer lilac/butterfly bush)?  They bloom
for me in zone 5/6 about July and run up to frost.  They come in wonderful
shades of purple, pink, and white and I believe one shade of a butterscotch
yellow.  The flower trusses are long and look great in a bouquet with the
full blooms of roses.
