Re: Roses for hips

Hi Monica:
You could consider Rosa rugosa or one of its hybrids. They are wonderful
hardy, disease resistent, repeating and fragrant roses. They come in
different colors and heights. While the R. rugosa species and many of its
hybrids bear numerous tomato-like hips, other hybrids don't, so you will
have to enquire about any sprcific variety if you are interested mainly in
hips. A good place to look is the web site of the Roseraie at Bayfields.
The URL for the rugosa section of their on-line catalog is:
www.roseraie.com/rugosas.html
There is also the book "Rosa rugosa" by Suzanne Verrier. Maybe you could
get it at your library or by interlibrary loan.
Good luck!

Colette
